Vina Bisquertt

History

Viña Bisquertt is one of the pioneering family-owned wineries of Chile’s Colchagua Valley, a region internationally recognized for producing some of the country’s finest red wines. The history of the Bisquertt family in Chilean viticulture dates back to the 1970s, when the family first established vineyards in the heart of Colchagua. At a time when Chilean wine was still largely focused on quantity rather than quality, the Bisquertt family recognized the exceptional potential of the region’s terroir and became one of the early producers dedicated to crafting premium wines with strong regional identity.

The winery is particularly associated with the Marchigüe area, located in the western part of the Colchagua Valley near the Pacific Ocean. Unlike the warmer inland sectors of the valley, Marchigüe benefits from strong maritime influence, cooling coastal breezes, rolling hills, and significant day-to-night temperature variation. These natural conditions allow grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, preserving freshness, aromatic complexity, and structure while maintaining excellent concentration. Viña Bisquertt played an important role in demonstrating the unique potential of this coastal-influenced terroir, helping establish Marchigüe as one of Chile’s most promising premium wine regions.

Throughout its development, Viña Bisquertt has maintained a philosophy centered on expressing terroir authenticity and vineyard individuality. The winery places strong emphasis on sustainable viticulture, careful vineyard management, and low-intervention winemaking practices that allow each grape variety and parcel to fully express its natural character. Extensive vineyard studies and precise site selection have enabled the winery to cultivate varieties particularly well suited to the region, including Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Malbec.

Philosophy & Vision

Viña Bisquertt is deeply committed to producing wines that reflect the authentic identity of Colchagua Valley while balancing richness, freshness, and elegance. The winery believes that exceptional wine begins in the vineyard, and significant effort is devoted to understanding each individual parcel, soil type, and microclimate. Through sustainable farming and precise vineyard management, the estate seeks to preserve biodiversity and allow the natural expression of each grape variety to emerge clearly in the final wines.

The coastal influence of Marchigüe plays a crucial role in shaping the winery’s style. Cooling Pacific breezes and large day-to-night temperature differences help preserve acidity and aromatic purity while allowing grapes to achieve full phenolic ripeness. This unique environment enables Viña Bisquertt to create wines with concentration and depth while maintaining freshness and balance — a defining characteristic of the estate’s philosophy.

In the cellar, traditional techniques are combined with modern technology to achieve precision and consistency. Temperature-controlled fermentation, careful oak aging, and detailed blending practices are used to preserve fruit purity while enhancing complexity and texture. The winery continuously experiments with different vineyard selections and aging methods to further refine the expression of Colchagua terroir in each wine.

Certifications & Recognition

Over the years, Viña Bisquertt has gained international recognition as one of the leading wineries representing the modern evolution of Chilean wine. The estate played a significant role in elevating the reputation of Colchagua Valley and particularly the Marchigüe area, helping establish the region as a source of premium coastal-influenced Chilean wines.

The winery’s wines have consistently received strong ratings and awards from major international wine critics and publications, especially for varieties such as Carmenère, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec. Viña Bisquertt is particularly respected for producing wines that combine the richness and concentration often associated with New World wines with the elegance, freshness, and structure more commonly found in classic Old World styles.

Today, Viña Bisquertt continues to expand its reputation globally through a wide portfolio ranging from approachable everyday wines to terroir-driven single vineyard and premium reserve wines. Through sustainable viticulture, innovative winemaking, and a deep respect for the identity of Colchagua Valley, the winery remains one of the important ambassadors of contemporary Chilean wine.
