Cantina Tollo

Established in 1960 in the village of Tollo in the Chieti region of Abruzzo, Cantina Tollo began as many Italians settled in the area at a time when they were leaving the Aruzzo countryside due to lack of opportunities. Tollo's ancestors took advantage of the rich soil and breathed life into the Tollo vineyards, dreaming of a golden future. Although life in Abruzzo was not easy from the 1960s to the 1970s, he played an active role in improving the local economy and invested a long time in cultivating healthy vines. Due to the efforts of the Tollo winery, production decreased in the surrounding wine-producing regions of Teramo and Aquila, while wine production increased and quality improved in the Chieti region, playing a major role in making the Tollo region a true “City of Wine.” Tollo wine, which is more accessible than other Italian wines that may seem difficult, offers excellent quality wines at competitive prices and is recognized as the best winery in Abruzzo.

Today, with passion, dedication and the belief in shared values, Tollo winery promotes its excellent quality around the world, exporting 35% of its production in addition to selling within Italy, with an eye on emerging markets such as Europe, North America, India and China.

Vineyard & Wine Making

Cantina Tollo's vineyards extend over approximately 3,000 hectares, from the coastal hills to the hills of Maiella, in a typical Mediterranean climate. The gentle hills, breezes from the sea, and temperature differences between night and day make it possible to produce high-quality wines rich in aroma. Tollo's wines are grown using traditional methods, with a focus on traditional varietals such as Montelpulciano and Trebbiano, and constant experimentation in the cellar and vineyard, using pergolas (arched structures for climbing vines). The old facility located in the winery consists of vitrified cement tanks and large Slavonian oak barrels and barrels, boasting the best facilities for wine aging. Recently, popularly priced wines made from international varieties such as Merlot and Chardonnay have been added to the portfolio, showing off the charms of both traditional and modern wines.
