History
: Cantina Tollo was founded in 1960 in the village of Tollo, located in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy. At a time when many Italians were leaving the rural areas of Abruzzo in search of better opportunities, the founders of Cantina Tollo chose to remain and build their future in the region. Believing in the extraordinary potential of its fertile soils, they brought new life to the vineyards with a vision of a prosperous future.
Life in Abruzzo during the 1960s and 1970s was far from easy. Nevertheless, Cantina Tollo played an active role in strengthening the local economy, dedicating considerable time and effort to cultivating healthy vineyards and improving viticultural practices. As a result, while wine production declined in neighboring areas such as Teramo and L’Aquila, the province of Chieti achieved remarkable progress in both wine production and quality. Cantina Tollo played an important role in transforming the village of Tollo into a true “Wine City.”
Today, Cantina Tollo is widely recognized as one of Abruzzo’s leading wineries, offering wines that combine approachable styles, competitive prices, and consistently high quality. Guided by its core values of passion, dedication, and shared values, the winery has expanded beyond the Italian domestic market into Europe, North America, India, China, and other emerging markets. With approximately 35% of its total production exported, Cantina Tollo has established itself as an internationally recognized wine producer.
About Wine
: The wine is aged for six months in stainless steel tanks to preserve its fresh fruit character and approachable style. The name “Bellaretta” combines the Italian words “Bella,” meaning “beautiful,” and “Retta,” meaning “straight,” reflecting the picturesque landscape of the Bellaretta vineyards, where rows of vines extend across the land in precise and orderly lines. Produced by Cantina Tollo, one of Abruzzo’s oldest and largest wineries, this wine embodies a modern and approachable winemaking philosophy, offering an enjoyable expression of the region’s character.
